Nigerian Navy Attributes 70 Years of Success to Divine Intervention

The Nigerian Navy has marked its 70th anniversary, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has expressed his gratitude to God for the Service's remarkable achievements over the years. Abbas, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Akintola Olodude, at an interdenominational church service in Abuja, described the Nigerian Navy as a critical pillar of the country's national security architecture. He attributed the Navy's growth into a formidable maritime force to God's divine grace and favour. 'As we celebrate this historic milestone, we give all the glory to God for His mercy, protection, and guidance over the Service for seven decades,' Abbas said. The Nigerian Navy was established in 1956, and since then, it has evolved into a professional and respected force committed to defending the country's territorial integrity and protecting its maritime interests. Abbas reiterated the Navy's commitment to supporting the Federal Government's drive towards national development and enhanced security, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He also commended serving and retired officers, as well as ratings, for their patriotism, sacrifice, and dedication to the Service. In his sermon, the Director of Naval Chaplain Services, Rev. Commander Joseph Elises, quoted Jeremiah 29:10-11, saying that the number 70 represents the end of one era and the beginning of another. He prayed that God would regenerate the Nigerian Navy and make it even greater, and that a divine encounter was coming for the Service, the country, and its people.
