Kidnappers Waste Jigawa Reps Aspirant Despite N75m Ransom Payment

Anas Adamu Laushi, a former Guri LGA Chairman and House of Reps aspirant, was tragically killed by kidnappers on the Abuja–Kaduna highway despite a reported N75 million ransom payment. This incident highlights the escalating insecurity and recurring abductions for ransom in Jigawa State and along major routes.

A former Chairman of Guri Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Anas Adamu Laushi, and aspirant for the Birniwa/Guri/Kirikasamma Federal Constituency under the African Democratic Congress, has been killed by suspected armed men. This was after he was abducted alongside one Hon Aliyu Tukur Gantsa on the Abuja–Kaduna highway. According to a security analyst, Bakatsine, the incident reportedly occurred while the victims were travelling along the Abuja–Kaduna highway, a route that has continued to record repeated cases of armed kidnappings involving suspected criminal groups targeting commuters. It was further reported that a ransom of N75million was paid in an attempt to secure the release of Hon. Anas Adamu Laushi from captivity. However, despite the reported payment, he was killed by his abductors after the ransom was delivered. Jigawa State has continued to record recurring incidents of banditry and kidnapping, particularly in rural communities and border local government areas such as Guri, Birniwa and Kirikasamma, where armed groups are reported to operate along remote routes and forested corridors. Security reports indicate that these criminal activities have included abductions for ransom, armed attacks on villages, and assaults on travellers along inter-state roads, with perpetrators often exploiting difficult terrain and limited security presence in remote areas. In several recent operations, security agencies in the state have announced the arrest of suspected members of kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates following coordinated raids carried out across different local government areas involving the police and other security formations. Efforts by SaharaReporters to obtain comments from the Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar were unsuccessful, as he was not available to respond to inquiries sent to him at the time of filing this report. https://x.com/i/status/2053858173765783930
