The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, has come out to refute claims that a recent nationwide prayer programme was organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, or its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye. According to the National Secretary of the PFN, Bishop David Bakare, the programme was conceived, planned, and executed solely by the fellowship. In a statement, Bakare expressed disappointment at the attempts to link the programme to Pastor Adeboye or the RCCG, describing such claims as 'false, misleading, and entirely baseless.' He stated that the RCCG did not initiate any protest and that the programme was a PFN initiative from start to finish. Bakare emphasized that the fellowship was in full control of the programme, with all participating churches, including the RCCG, following the directives of the PFN as responsible members of the pentecostal community. The final day of the programme coincided with Pentecost Sunday, a globally observed Christian event. Bakare noted that the gatherings were part of a global Christian observance and not unique to the RCCG or Nigerian churches. An earlier proposal for public processions and placards was suspended due to security considerations. The PFN expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the exercise, describing it as successful in mobilising prayers for the nation. The fellowship called on Christians and Nigerians to reject misinformation and support unity, peace, and national progress. Earlier in May, the PFN had announced a three-day nationwide fasting and prayer programme in response to the worsening insecurity, bloodshed, economic hardship, and concerns about Nigeria's political future ahead of the 2027 elections. The chairman of the Kwara State chapter of the PFN, Rev. O.T. Opatola, had pleaded with political leaders to focus on ending killings, banditry, and terrorism in Nigeria rather than their electoral ambitions.
