Olola Daniel, the younger sibling of ex-Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel, has publicly declared his backing for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial hopeful in the state, widely known as Yayi. Daniel also brushed aside the ongoing debate concerning Senator Adeola’s family origin, labeling it a diversion in the lead-up to the 2027 governorship contest.

Speaking on Sunday, Olola Daniel, who leads both the Ogun Progressive People and the Progressive People Diaspora Coalition for YAYI, emphasized that political discourse ought to center on candidates' verifiable achievements, professional background, proposed policies, and their ability to meet citizens' demands, rather than disputes about their lineage. He further claimed in his statement that opposing factions were deliberately magnifying this controversy to sidetrack public focus from Adeola's aspirations for the governorship.

Daniel asserted that the populace of Ogun State merits political engagement driven by substantive issues, with a strong emphasis on effective governance, progress, and transparency in public service. He drew parallels to his own family's experience, recalling that they encountered comparable accusations when his elder brother announced his bid for the state's governorship in 2003.

He stated, “Our political history in Ogun State shows that controversies of this nature are not new. When my elder brother declared his intention to contest the governorship election in 2003, our family faced similar allegations. However, such controversies should not be allowed to overshadow the critical issues of governance, development and accountability. The people deserve a meaningful discussion about the future of Ogun State.”

The convener of OPP affirmed that Senator Adeola fulfills all constitutional criteria necessary to vie for the governorship, characterising the claims leveled against him as mere political maneuvering. He further stressed that, “The voters must be ready to assess aspirants based on verifiable records, qualifications, experience and clearly defined plans for the state.”

Daniel elaborated, “My decision to support Sen Adeola is informed by the senator’s public service record, legislative experience and development priorities. My optimism is that an Adeola-led administration would implement policies aimed at improving residents’ welfare and accelerating development at the grassroots.”

Daniel additionally revealed that the Ogun Progressive People has functioned as a political advocacy group since 2022, boasting well-established community networks throughout Ogun State. He mentioned that the Progressive People Diaspora Coalition for YAYI was established after discussions with Ogun indigenes residing overseas, who collectively felt that Adeola was a suitable candidate for the state's top political position.

He further explained that both organisations are collaborating to rally support for Adeola and other APC contenders in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. Daniel stated, “Our activities are focused on political engagement, public awareness, strategic collaboration and grassroots mobilisation. We believe that constructive engagement and effective mobilisation are essential to achieving our political objectives.”

Furthermore, Daniel conveyed his hope that an Adeola-led government would not only continue the developmental projects initiated by the current governor, Dapo Abiodun, but also roll out new policies designed to meet the aspirations and daily requirements of Ogun State residents.

He clarified that his participation in the YAYI political venture stems from his dedication to fostering community advancement and providing humanitarian aid. Daniel referenced his Faith-in-Kindness Foundation, noting that the organisation has provided financial assistance for school fees to underprivileged students and offered support to individuals facing diverse difficulties.

He added that such charitable work underscores his conviction that leadership should be evaluated not solely on political pledges but also on concrete actions that uplift people's lives. He remarked, “Leadership and public service should go beyond promises. They should be measured by practical interventions that improve the living conditions of the people, particularly the less privileged.”

Daniel reaffirmed his dedication to gathering support for the APC within Ogun State in preparation for the 2027 elections. He implored political actors to concentrate on constructive dialogue and discussions centered on development. He concluded that the political discourse in the state should primarily address the future, the well-being of its inhabitants, and the various policy options voters will consider as they prepare to choose their next governor.
