Ekiti Governor Oyebanji Disbands State Boards, Sacks Political Staff

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has given his approval for the immediate disbandment of all state-owned boards, commissions, and parastatals. This directive also includes the termination of all political appointments within the state government.

Mr. Yinka Oyebode, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, confirmed that the termination affects various roles such as Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, and Technical Assistants. In a statement released on Sunday from Ado Ekiti, Oyebode explained that this decision was necessary as the Governor's first tenure is gradually concluding, leading up to his second term inauguration scheduled for October 16, 2026.

However, certain entities and individuals are exempted from this sweeping directive. The chairmen and members of statutory boards, including the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), the Civil Service Commission, the House of Assembly Service Commission, and the Judicial Service Commission, will retain their positions.

Furthermore, the governing councils for all tertiary institutions owned by the state remain unaffected, in line with previous instructions issued by the Governor. The statement also clarified that while their respective boards are dissolved, the Chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Local Government Service Commission, and the Teaching Service Commission will continue in their offices. Directors-General and Technical Advisors directly attached to the Governor are also among those exempted from the termination of appointments.

Governor Oyebanji used the opportunity to express his gratitude to all the affected appointees for their valuable contributions to the achievements of his administration and their dedicated service to Ekiti State. He extended his best wishes for their future endeavors.
