Details emerge: NDC Tells Atiku: Step Aside, Back Obi to Oust Tinubu in 2027

Full Story
The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has publicly appealed to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race. The NDC is advocating for Abubakar to instead throw his weight behind their own presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, in the upcoming general elections.
Theo Abu Agada, who serves as the Director of New Media and Strategic Communications for the NDC, made this call via a post on X (formerly Twitter). Agada articulated that President Bola Tinubu's tenure could be brought to an end in 2027 if Atiku Abubakar agrees to step aside and endorse Peter Obi.
According to the NDC official, such a move by Abubakar would not tarnish his existing legacy but would significantly enhance the opposition's prospects of victory in 2027. Agada lauded Abubakar's qualities, describing him as a man of character and vision, yet insisted that the time has come for him to relinquish his presidential aspirations for the greater good of a united opposition front.
Agada's post included a direct appeal: "Every electioneering season. AA is a good and solid man, but he needs to give it up at this point. His idea for a working Nigeria is brilliant but at this point, he needs to give up his ambition. If he steps aside, nothing is going to affect his sterling legacy. AA should support Obi to kick the APC out."
This appeal from the NDC comes shortly after the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, declared that the 2027 presidential election would mark his final attempt at the presidency, irrespective of the outcome.
