Accountability Top Priority as Bala Mohammed Swears in Bauchi LG Chiefs

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has challenged the recently inaugurated Local Government Chairmen, a Commissioner, and six Special Advisers to uphold public trust through their competence, integrity, and effective service delivery. During their swearing-in ceremony at the State Government House, Governor Mohammed specifically urged the newly sworn-in chairmen of the state's 20 local government areas to ensure complete transparency and accountability in managing council funds.
The Governor underscored his administration’s dedication to strengthening democracy and effective grassroots governance, citing the consistent Local Government elections held since 2019 as evidence. He issued a stern warning to the chairmen against any form of misappropriation of local government funds. Mohammed emphasized that the financial autonomy now granted to these councils places an even greater responsibility on them to deliver good governance to the people at the grassroots level.
“You must not be tempted to misappropriate or divert local government funds. With financial autonomy now granted to local governments to run their affairs, you have no excuse for poor performance,” Governor Mohammed stated unequivocally. He further implored the chairmen to view their appointments as a profound opportunity to serve the populace, rather than a means for personal enrichment or the sharing of public resources.
According to Governor Mohammed, citizens now harbor elevated expectations for the newly elected council officials due to their direct proximity and accessibility to the grassroots communities. He concluded by reiterating, “The position of local government is no longer a place where we go and share money. We go there to face challenges because the required human capacity, trust and confidence of the people must be built.”
