Oyo Traditional Rulers, LG Chiefs Applaud Makinde's Road Infrastructure Push

On Tuesday, traditional rulers, local government chairmen, and citizens of Oyo East and Oyo West Local Government Areas in Oyo State lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his administration's consistent focus on road infrastructure. This commendation followed an inspection of both newly completed and ongoing road projects across the two council areas.

The inspection was spearheaded by Oluokun Olusola, the Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, alongside Akeem Olukitibi, his counterpart from Oyo West. They were joined by several prominent traditional leaders, including Oba Olaniyi Adegboye, the Oloodu of Ojongbodu; Oba Lamidi Oyewale Afonja Mukaila, the Onisamu of Samu; Oba Samuel Odurinde, the Alajagba of Oyo; the Ona-Isokun of Oyo; Oba Olufemi Oyekan, the Elepe of Iseke; Oba Fakayode Alowonle, the Onimileke of Imileke, Oyo; Oba David Oyediran, the Alaaguo of Aguoland; Oba Salawu Oyeniran, the Onigbudugbu of Gbudugbu, Oyo; and Oba Tijani Ajeigbe, the Alapa-Ara of Apa-Ara.

The delegation's tour included a visit to the recently finished asphalt-tarred road connecting Iseke, Ladindin, Ojongbodu, and Isokun. This significant infrastructure development spans both Oyo East and Oyo West Local Government Areas, covering a total distance of four kilometres, with 3.2 kilometres in Oyo East and 0.8 kilometres in Oyo West.

Speaking to journalists in Oyo town after the inspection, Akeem Olukitibi, the Chairman of Oyo West Local Government, commended Governor Makinde for making road infrastructure a priority throughout the state. He noted that “the administration’s interventions have improved transportation, enhanced accessibility and stimulated economic activities in several communities.” Olukitibi also acknowledged the pivotal role played by Monsurat Sunmonu, the former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, stating her support was “instrumental to the approval and successful execution of the road projects.”

Similarly, Oluokun Olusola, the Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for what he termed “part of the numerous developmental projects executed in the council areas.” He added, “This is a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of the people.” Olusola further highlighted other key projects delivered by the state government, such as the Apaara–Oke Apo Road, Molaba–Balogun Road, Olugbon–Mobolaje Road, Oba Adeyemi Road, Ajagba–Ogeese Road, and the Kosobo Road. He affirmed that “These roads have significantly improved connectivity, facilitated commerce and enhanced the socio-economic development of the benefiting communities.” He also praised the former Speaker, Monsurat Sunmonu, for her unwavering support, describing her as a worthy ambassador and representative of the ancient city.

Representing the traditional rulers, Oba Lamidi Oyeniyi, the Onisamu of Samu, characterized Governor Makinde as “a visionary and people-centred leader whose administration has continued to transform communities through strategic infrastructure development.” He, too, applauded Sunmonu for her dedication to the progress of the Oyo Federal Constituency. In separate remarks, the Elepe of Iseke and the Alaaguo of Aguoland conveyed their satisfaction with the high quality of the completed roads, predicting that these projects would facilitate movement, boost trade, and accelerate economic growth across the affected communities.

Adewara Muyiwa, the Project Engineer for Quickborn Nigeria Limited, the contractor, confirmed that construction had proceeded as planned and that the project was complete. He assured residents that any remaining sections would be finalised according to the approved specifications.
