Tinubu Hails Fashola's Legacy at 63rd Birthday Celebration

President Bola Tinubu has conveyed his congratulations to Babatunde Fashola, the erstwhile Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Works, Power, and Housing, on the occasion of his 63rd birthday. The President lauded Fashola, who was born on June 28, 1963, as an exceptional administrator whose contributions to governance and national development have established an enduring impact.
In a statement released on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu commended the former governor’s leadership qualities, professional approach, and steadfast dedication to progressive governance principles. He further characterized Fashola as an accomplished legal professional and a patriotic Nigerian, whose exemplary public service has left a lasting mark, particularly within Lagos State.
President Tinubu also highlighted Fashola’s unwavering loyalty to the tenets of good governance, his integrity in public office, profound intellectual capacity, and commitment to nation-building. He recollected Fashola’s service as his Chief of Staff from 2003 to 2006, prior to Fashola succeeding him as Governor of Lagos State, a position he held from 2007 to 2015.
According to President Tinubu, Fashola significantly advanced the gains of progressive governance through pivotal reforms in critical sectors such as infrastructure, transportation, security, education, healthcare, environmental management, and public sector administration.
“Fashola’s commitment to excellence, which helped to transform Lagos into a model of innovation and sustainable urban development, will continue to signpost him as an outstanding governor and leader,” Tinubu stated.
The President also acknowledged Fashola’s dedicated service within the Federal Executive Council between 2015 and 2023, where he took charge of the vital ministries of Works, Power, and Housing.
“We must also commend his dedicated service in the Federal cabinet between 2015 and 2023, when he took charge of critical ministries of Works, Power and Housing,” President Tinubu added.
Concluding his message, President Tinubu offered prayers for the former governor’s continued good health, wisdom, and strength. “As former governor Fashola celebrates another year, I wish him well. I pray that Almighty Allah will grant him many more years in good health, wisdom, strength and fulfilment as he continues to contribute to the growth, unity and prosperity of our nation,” the President concluded.
