The Kwara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has affirmed its preparedness for the upcoming 2027 general elections, maintaining that no amount of pressure or adverse judicial actions will impede its participation in the polls. This declaration was officially released on Wednesday by Abubakar Basambo, the party's State Publicity Secretary, following a State Executive Committee meeting conducted at its secretariat in Ilorin, the state capital.

During the meeting, Babatunde Muhammed, the State Chairman of the ADC, conveyed strong optimism regarding the party's prospects in the next election cycle. He underscored the party's unwavering focus on clinching victory. Muhammed asserted, “The 2027 election is ours to win. No amount of intimidation and no level of judicial rascality can deter ADC from contesting and emerging victorious in flying colours.”

This resolute stance by the party comes amid ongoing legal controversies surrounding the official status of several political parties, following a Federal High Court ruling that mandated the deregistration of the ADC and four other political groups. Muhammed, however, commended the Court of Appeal for its intervention in the matter, stating that the appellate court’s decision has significantly bolstered confidence in the democratic process.

According to the chairman, the Appeal Court sharply condemned the lower court’s judgment, describing the trial judge, Justice Peter Lifu, as ‘unfit to be a judge’. Crucially, the appellate court also issued a stay of execution on the deregistration order, which had affected the ADC and other political parties.

Looking forward, the Kwara ADC urged its members to foster greater unity and called upon party faithful across the state to intensify grassroots mobilization efforts in anticipation of the 2027 elections. The party emphasized, “Unity is the greatest need of this hour. This judgment has proven that the will of the people cannot be deregistered by any court.” Furthermore, it implored all ADC candidates and their supporters to commence active engagement with voters across Kwara. “To all ADC candidates across Kwara: the time to work is now. There is no more time to waste. Let us take our message of rescue and rebuilding to every ward, every unit, every home,” the party stated.

ADC reiterated its commitment to issue-based politics, ensuring credible elections, and what it described as the restoration of political power to the populace. The party also expressed gratitude to its members for their patience and resilience during the period of legal uncertainty, assuring residents of the state that the ADC is fully equipped to provide leadership if granted the mandate in 2027.

In other political developments reported alongside this, Kingibe reportedly stated that he never saw the report behind Natasha’s suspension. Separately, a party chairman (not specified which party) indicated that the departure of former Inspector General of Police Adamu from the All Progressives Congress would not hinder their prospects in 2027. Meanwhile, reports also indicate that Kwara State has initiated legal proceedings against Saraki over alleged defamation.
