Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has called on those behind the rising insecurity in the country to cease their activities and allow President Bola Tinubu to focus on governing the nation. Okpebholo made this appeal during the launch of the All Progressives Congress campaign for the Edo South Senatorial District local government elections, which took place at Urhokpota Hall in Benin City. The governor attributed the recent surge in kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism to attempts by opposition forces to undermine Tinubu's leadership. According to Okpebholo, these acts of insecurity will not guarantee the perpetrators any political advantage, stressing that there is no vacancy in the presidency. 'There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. Even if they kidnap all of us, there will still be no vacancy. The current situation is a result of the opposition's actions. They have failed, and their failure is evident. What is the point of kidnapping children? Who will they govern when there is no one left?' Okpebholo questioned. The governor also commended President Tinubu's performance, stating that his impact is visible in the various projects ongoing across the country and in Edo State, which have been made possible by the removal of fuel subsidies. Okpebholo expressed his support for the APC candidates in the forthcoming council elections, stating that their victory would be a strong indication of the party's popularity ahead of the 2027 general elections, where the party aims to secure 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu in the state. The Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, praised Okpebholo's commitment to youth empowerment and leadership development, noting that the administration has created opportunities for young people to hold key positions in government. The APC State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, described the party as the only viable platform in Edo State and urged the council election candidates to take the message of the governor's developmental achievements to the grassroots communities and ensure effective performance if elected.
