Former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially declared his intention to contest Nigeria's presidency on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform. Former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has formally declared his intention to contest Nigeria’s presidency under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Amaechi disclosed on Thursday that he submitted his presidential nomination forms at the ADC Secretariat, officially joining the race ahead of the next general election. According to him, his ambition is driven by a desire to “salvage” Nigeria and restore dignity to citizens amid worsening economic and social conditions in the country. “Today, I submitted my Presidential nomination forms at the ADC Secretariat, officially throwing my hat in the ring to salvage our country, Nigeria,” Amaechi said. “The mission is clear, we will fight to restore dignity to Nigerians, make our country great and respected in the comity of nations, and bring unity, peace, prosperity and progress to our people.” Amaechi, a former minister and former chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) before his political realignment, had previously contested the APC presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 elections. With his presidential ambition in ADC, he is set to face former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar and other aspirants at the coming party primaries. The African Democratic Congress has emerged as a platform attracting opposition and disgruntled politicians seeking an alternative political structure outside Nigeria’s dominant parties.
