Oluremi Tinubu Asks Nigerians to Tackle Food Waste, Embrace Sustainability

Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called upon citizens to significantly cut down on food waste and adopt environmentally friendly habits to safeguard our planet. Her appeal was delivered in a message commemorating the 2026 World Cleanup Day, an event observed on Sunday with the guiding principle, "From Clean Plates to Clean Cities."

Senator Tinubu emphasized the critical importance of focusing on food waste, especially in an era where global warming, conflicts, and various international challenges continuously disrupt food production and supply chains. She stated, "This year’s focus on food waste is particularly important at a time when climate change, conflicts, and other global challenges continue to disrupt food production and supply."

The First Lady further implored Nigerians to exercise greater responsibility in their approach to acquiring, preparing, consuming, and storing food items. She urged, "I encourage households, businesses, and communities to reduce food waste, dispose of refuse properly, and adopt more sustainable practices that protect our environment."

According to Mrs. Tinubu, a concerted effort is essential for establishing cleaner and healthier environments for both the current generation and those yet to come. She concluded by saying, "Through our collective efforts, we can build cleaner, healthier communities for present and future generations."
