US President Trump Announces Ceasefire Between Israel and Hezbollah

In a significant development, United States President Donald Trump revealed on Monday that a mutual agreement had been reached between Israel and Hezbollah to bring an end to the ongoing hostilities. This announcement came after President Trump held a productive conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which he was assured that Israeli forces would not proceed with their previously threatened entry into the southern suburbs of Beirut. Additionally, through high-level intermediaries, President Trump engaged in discussions with Hezbollah, resulting in the militant group's agreement to halt its attacks. As stated by President Trump on social media, 'I had a very productive call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu of Israel, and there will be no troops going to Beirut, and any troops that are on their way have already been turned back.' Furthermore, he noted, 'Likewise, through highly placed representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop — that Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel.' In a subsequent post, President Trump expressed optimism regarding the rapid progress of discussions with Iran, stating, 'Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Thank you for your attention to this matter!' Earlier in the day, however, President Trump's tone seemed less optimistic regarding the future of negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict, which initially erupted following US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. In a telephone interview with CNBC, President Trump appeared unconcerned about the potential collapse of the talks, saying, 'If they’re over, they’re over. Frankly, I thought they started to get very boring.' He also suggested to NBC News that he was unaware of Iran's reported decision to suspend negotiations but proposed that a decrease in public discussions could be beneficial, stating, 'I think we’ve been talking too much, if you want to know the truth. I think going silent would be very good, and that could be for a long time.'
