UK Inquest Confirms Nigerian Mother's Suicide After Mental Health Battle

A coroner's investigation in the United Kingdom has concluded that Beatrice Solomon, a 27-year-old Nigerian mother, tragically died by suicide. The young mother-of-one was discovered unresponsive at her residence on Norris Road, Stanfield, Stoke-on-Trent, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
Her husband, Damian Michael Butler, aged 40, made the heartbreaking discovery. Mr. Butler, who works as a delivery driver, had left for his job around 4:30 pm that day. He returned approximately two hours later to use the toilet, only to find his wife's body, as reported by UK media outlets on July 12.
PC Hinchliffe informed the inquest that paramedics arrived swiftly at the scene, but sadly, Beatrice was pronounced dead at 6:21 pm. Police officers confirmed there was no third-party involvement in her passing.
During the inquest, Damian Butler revealed that Beatrice had been struggling with her mental health for a year, a situation exacerbated by ongoing issues with Stoke-on-Trent City Council. He also disclosed that he later became aware of two prior attempts Beatrice had made on her life.
Pathologist Dr. Jones determined the cause of death as oxygen deprivation. Consequently, Coroner Li Hammond-Naylor ruled Beatrice's death as a suicide. The coroner stated, "It is clear to me that Beatrice had researched and planned how to take her own life. I can only extend my sincere condolences to Beatrice’s family and friends."
Beatrice, who worked as a carer, had relocated to Stoke-on-Trent from Nigeria in November 2023. She is survived by her young son and her siblings.
