NiMet Forecasts Sunny Skies, Thunderstorms Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has issued a weather forecast indicating that the country will experience a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms from Sunday to Tuesday. According to the forecast released by NiMet in Abuja, the northern region can expect sunny skies with cloudy patches on Sunday, accompanied by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in some areas. Specifically, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna states are expected to experience thunderstorms with moderate rainfall during the morning hours. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated in Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba states. The North Central region is also expected to experience thunderstorms with moderate rains, particularly in Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory during the morning hours, with the same conditions extending to Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa states, and the Federal Capital Territory later in the day. In the southern region, moderate rainfall is expected in Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos, and Bayelsa states during the morning, with the entire southern region expected to experience moderate rainfall later in the day. On Monday, NiMet predicts thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states in the northern region during the morning, with similar conditions expected in Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa states later in the day. The North Central region is expected to experience thunderstorms with moderate rains in Niger, Kwara states, and the Federal Capital Territory during the morning, with the same conditions anticipated across the region later in the day. For the southern region, light rains are expected in Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Rivers states during the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected across the region later in the day. By Tuesday, partly cloudy skies are expected over the northern region, with chances of thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall in Bauchi, Jigawa, and Yobe states during the morning hours, and thunderstorms with moderate rainfall across the region in the afternoon and evening. The North Central region can expect sunny skies with patches of clouds during the morning, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rains in the afternoon and evening. The southern region is expected to experience a cloudy atmosphere with prospects of light rains in Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states during the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall anticipated across the region later in the day. NiMet has advised the public to take necessary precautions, including securing loose objects that could be blown away by strong winds preceding the rains. The agency also warned against driving or wading through floodwaters and advised airline operators to obtain specific weather reports for effective planning.
