Seun Kuti Addresses Nepotism Claims, Credits Family Legacy for Shaping His Career

Seun Kuti, the renowned Afrobeat singer, has shared his thoughts on the notion that his success can be attributed to his family background. In a recent interview on Ada's Room, Seun acknowledged that being the son of legendary musician Fela Kuti and grandson of activist Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti has indeed played a role in his career. However, he emphasized that hard work and dedication are equally important. Seun explained that even his father, Fela, benefited from being the son of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, saying, 'You will see people online calling me a nepo baby, but even Fela Kuti, if he wasn't Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti's son, he wouldn't have been Fela. Nothing comes from nothing.' The singer stressed that while his family name may have opened doors for him, he still has to put in the effort to achieve his goals. As he aptly put it, 'I might be a nepo baby, but my father is not on stage playing my sax for me.'
