US Crypto Mogul Sam Bankman-Fried Awaits Trump's Pardon Decision

The founder of the cryptocurrency exchange platform FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, who is currently serving a 25-year prison term for fraud and conspiracy, has submitted a request for a pardon to US President Donald Trump. According to the website of the Office of the Pardon Attorney of the Department of Justice, Bankman-Fried's request is currently pending. This development comes after Trump, in an interview with The New York Times in January, stated that he did not intend to grant a pardon to the 34-year-old Bankman-Fried. Bankman-Fried, also known as SBF, had achieved immense success at a young age, becoming a billionaire before the age of 30 and transforming FTX, a small startup he co-founded in 2019, into the world's second-largest crypto exchange platform. However, his fortunes took a dramatic turn in November 2022, when a surge in customer withdrawals and the revelation that billions of dollars had been illegally transferred from FTX to his personal hedge fund, Alameda Research, led to his downfall. In November 2023, Bankman-Fried was convicted by a federal jury in New York on seven counts of fraud, embezzlement, and criminal conspiracy. He has since appealed the conviction. The outcome of his pardon request remains to be seen, as Trump's administration considers his application.
