The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly instructed its private legal representative, Akinolu Kehinde, SAN, to defer the alleged cyberbullying lawsuit against Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, until the conclusion of the 2027 presidential elections. This development follows a high-level meeting involving the Director-General of the DSS, Tosin Ajayi, the senior counsel, and key officials from the agency's Legal Directorate.

A source within the DSS informed Vanguard that the Director-General directed the legal team and Directorate of Legal Services officials to halt proceedings, emphasizing that it would be fair to pause the case given the commencement of presidential campaign activities. The source further elaborated that since the case has been ongoing for nearly a year, an additional four-month suspension would not significantly alter its trajectory.

According to the insider, "The DSS boss told the lawyers that, since the matter had been in court for nearly a year, suspending it for another four months wouldn’t make much difference.”

The DSS is expected to formally communicate this decision to suspend the legal action to the Federal High Court. This notification is anticipated around September 14, 2026, when the court is slated to resume its regular sessions following the annual judicial recess.

The security agency had initially approached the court to ascertain the propriety of Sowore's alleged cyberbullying of President Bola Tinubu. This reportedly occurred through posts on his 'X' handle and Facebook page on August 25, 2025, where the president was purportedly referred to as a “criminal.”
