IGP Disu Cautions Politicians Over Harbouring Suspected Criminals in Osun

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has expressed concerns that some political parties in Osun State are providing refuge to suspected criminals. This revelation was made during a visit to the state's capital, Osogbo, where he met with Governor Ademola Adeleke. Disu stated that the state's Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, had informed him about the presence of wanted individuals within the Government House. He assured that the police would handle the situation accordingly. In response, Governor Adeleke urged the police to apprehend anyone involved in criminal activities, regardless of their social status. The police boss, accompanied by senior officers, promised to work diligently to ensure the safety of residents in the state. Disu mentioned that he had received complaints and would address them individually. 'If I tell you that I have not had complaints, I have lied, and I will explain everything to you one by one, sir,' he said. The IG also warned against the use of unregistered vehicles, stating that they should be impounded by the police. Earlier, representatives of the All Progressives Congress and the Accord Party presented their allegations and counter-allegations. The IG pledged to investigate these complaints thoroughly. 'I have listened to all the comments. We took note of the people mentioned, the suspect mentioned, we took note of Amotekun, and we took note of the uniform they were said to be putting on,' Disu said. The APC representative, Mr Bayo Adeleke, accused the state government of using Amotekun to perpetrate crimes and demanded a thorough probe into attacks on party members. The Accord Party representative, Bamidele Salam, cautioned against selective application of the law in fighting crime, citing the party's losses due to alleged APC attacks.
