Bandits Wreak Havoc in Kogi Relaxation Spot, Leave One Dead and Two Abducted

A devastating attack by suspected bandits occurred at Aluta Bar Relaxation in Oke-Ijumu, located within the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. The incident, which took place on Saturday night, June 6, 2026, resulted in the death of a customer and the abduction of two staff members, believed to be the bar manager and a female sales attendant. According to eyewitness accounts, the bandits stormed the relaxation spot, firing shots and causing chaos. In the ensuing melee, the hoodlums made off with the two staff members. Security operatives responded swiftly to the distress call, arriving at the scene shortly after the attackers had fled. The Kogi State Government has confirmed the attack, stating that security agencies engaged the invaders in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to retreat into nearby forests. Kingsley Fanwo, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, noted that the prompt response by the Nigerian Military, Police, Kogi State Vigilante Service, and local hunters prevented a major security disaster. Fanwo stated, 'The prompt and coordinated response by the Nigerian Military, Police, Kogi State Vigilante Service, and local hunters prevented what could have escalated into a major security disaster.' He also mentioned that intelligence reports indicate several attackers sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire before fleeing. Unfortunately, one member of the Tiv community lost his life during the crossfire, while another victim sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. The state government has urged residents to support ongoing security operations by reporting individuals with suspicious gunshot wounds or those seeking treatment for firearm-related injuries.
