Delta Police Nab Suspects, Bust Drug Rings, Recover Stolen Truck

The Delta State Police Command has announced significant breakthroughs in its ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state, leading to the apprehension of 23 individuals, the recovery of a stolen Howo trailer truck, and the confiscation of substantial quantities of suspected illicit substances through various operations.
Following directives from the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing Operations spearheaded a combined team comprising operatives from the Department of Operations, the Buffalo Team, and Okpanam patrol units. On May 22, 2026, this team conducted raids on identified criminal hotspots, hideouts, and brothels situated within the Okpanam axis and the Asaba metropolis. The operation specifically targeted areas around the Hausa Market in Okpanam, resulting in the arrest of 22 male suspects. Among the items recovered were 72 bottles of CSC Codeine, 11 packets of Tramadol, quantities of Swinol, Canadian Loud, and weeds believed to be Indian hemp. The arrested suspects and seized exhibits have since been transferred to the Special Enquiry Unit (SEU) for thorough profiling and further investigation, with a commitment that those found culpable will face prosecution.
In a separate development, acting on a petition concerning the snatching of a trailer truck, theft, and conspiracy, operatives of Operation Safe Delta successfully tracked down and recovered a stolen Howo trailer truck, bearing registration number KK/192 XA, at Ifite-Awka in Anambra State. The vehicle has been retrieved and transported back to Asaba, while efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects who fled.
Furthermore, in May 2026, the Command intercepted a tricycle during a routine stop-and-search operation along Esisi Road in Warri. A search of the vehicle uncovered 13 nylon bags filled with substances suspected to be Indian hemp. A 57-year-old female suspect was subsequently arrested in connection with this discovery. Investigations are currently ongoing to ascertain the origin and intended destination of these drugs.
Commissioner of Police for Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, appealed to residents to continue providing the Police with credible information, reiterating his assurance that all individuals found guilty will be brought to justice. Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activities via the Command Control Room at 08036684974.
