Alleged Cybercrime: Abuja Court Grants N5Million Bail To Blogger 'Justice Crack'

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to blogger Chidiebere Justice Mark, also known as “Justice Crack,” in the sum of N5 million with one surety in like sum. Chidiebere is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged cybercrime offences linked to a viral video concerning the Nigerian Army. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, while ruling on the bail application filed by the defendant, ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and must have maintained a fixed residential address for at least four years. The court further directed that the surety must provide proof of residence through either a tenancy agreement or a certificate of occupancy to be deposited at the court registry. In addition, the surety is required to be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 15, with evidence of at least three months’ salary payment, a letter of authentication from the immediate head of department, and proof of pensionable employment. Justice Abdulmalik also ordered that the surety must depose to an affidavit of means and submit a recent passport photograph to the court. The court further directed the defendant, Justice Crack, to deposit his passport with the court as part of the bail conditions. The matter was subsequently adjourned for continuation of trial. SaharaReporters previously reported that human rights lawyers at Marshal Attorneys called on the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, to withdraw a three-count charge filed against Justice Crack, before the Federal High Court in Abuja. In a letter dated May 5, 2026, and addressed to the Attorney-General, the firm urged the Federal Government to discontinue Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/253/2026, describing the case as a violation of constitutional rights and due process. They alleged that the activist was abducted by military intelligence officers on April 28, 2026, after honouring an invitation for a meeting.
