NDLEA Foils International Drug Shipments, Destroys Vast Skunk Farms Nationwide

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its anti-drug operations, intercepting cocaine and opioid consignments destined for the UK and Australia, which were cleverly hidden in carton walls. These widespread efforts also led to the destruction of 65,000 kilograms of skunk in Delta State, the recovery of military-grade ammunition in Kaduna, and numerous arrests across Lagos, Abuja, Ogun, Taraba, Oyo, Edo, and Kano states.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted cocaine and multiple opioid consignments concealed in carton walls and destined for the United Kingdom and Australia, as the agency intensified nationwide anti-drug operations that also led to the destruction of 65,000 kilograms of skunk in Delta State and the recovery of military-grade ammunition hidden in garri in Kaduna State. The seizures meant for export were made on Friday, 15 May 2026, at a courier company in Lagos during routine inspection of outbound parcels. According to the agency, 170 grams of cocaine were discovered hidden in the lining of a carton of clothing heading to Australia, according to Femi Babafemi Director, Media and Advocacy NDLEA in a statement on Sunday. In a separate shipment, NDLEA operatives also uncovered a mix of opioids concealed within another carton bound for the United Kingdom. The substances included 200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 capsules of tramadol and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection. In Delta State, NDLEA operatives, backed by soldiers, carried out large-scale raids on cannabis plantations across Ukwuani and Ughelli North local government areas. In Ejeonu village, Ukwuani LGA, officers destroyed 27,500 kilograms of skunk on 11 hectares of farmland, recovering 22.9 kilograms of the same substance and arresting a suspect, Ifeanyichukwu Peter. A second operation in Orogun village, Ughelli North LGA, led to the destruction of 37,500 kilograms of skunk on 15 hectares of farmland. A suspect, Godwin Vincent Osadera, was arrested in connection with the cultivation activities. The agency said the combined destruction from both raids amounted to 65,000 kilograms. In another operation in the state, 361 kilograms of skunk were recovered during a raid in the Dan Magaji area of Zaria on Wednesday, 13 May, with Husaini Suleiman, 42, taken into custody. In the Federal Capital Territory, operatives arrested a 29-year-old businessman, Ogadi Peter, accused of producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for parties and social gatherings. He was arrested at his residence in the Life Camp area of Abuja following intelligence reports, with 800 grams of skunk and 2.7 kilograms of drug-infused baked products recovered. In Ogun State, NDLEA operatives seized 181 kilograms of skunk during a raid in the Ogere area on Wednesday, 13 May, while in Taraba State, a suspect, Sufiyanu Mohammed Misa, 27, was arrested along the Zaki-Biam road in Wukari Local Government Area with 105,850 pills of opioids including tramadol, diazepam and exol-5. In Oyo State, two suspects, Adeleke Olamide Aliyah, 20, and Aloba Abdulazeez, 25, were arrested in Saki town over the seizure of 99 litres of skuchies. In Edo State, operatives destroyed 1,388.4175 kilograms of skunk during raids on farms in Ago forest, Orhionmwon Local Government Area. In Kano State, a 25-litre jerrycan of palm oil used to conceal 1.2 kilograms of tramaking 225mg was intercepted at Kofar Ruwa motor park following intelligence, while another suspect, Aminu Isa, 35, was arrested in Sabuwar Sharada with 30.5 kilograms of skunk.
