Tailor Caught for Spreading False Bandit Attack Video in Ogun State

In a bizarre incident, a young tailor identified as Qawiyu has been apprehended by the Ogun State Police for fabricating a video of a bandit attack and sharing it on social media. The video, which went viral, sparked widespread panic in the Atan area of the state. However, upon interrogation, Qawiyu confessed that the video was staged and that he had created it solely to increase his followers on TikTok. According to him, 'I did it because I saw people doing it to gain followers.' The suspect further revealed that the Fulani man seen in the video was not a bandit but a cattle herder who regularly passed by his shop with his cows. Qawiyu explained that he had approached the herder with a proposal to create content together, but the herder had initially declined. Undeterred, Qawiyu had instructed his apprentice to record the video. He made two recordings, one on Monday and another on Wednesday, but deleted the second video after realizing how quickly it was spreading online. 'The moment I noticed it's spreading, I deleted the second one,' he stated. The police arrest has brought to light the dangers of spreading false information on social media and the importance of verifying the authenticity of online content.
