The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has made a passionate appeal to governors and traditional rulers in the South West to urgently address the rising wave of kidnapping and insecurity in the region. Adams emphasized that the time to take decisive action against these terrorists is now, as the situation has reached a boiling point. In a statement addressed to the governors and monarchs, Adams painted a grim picture of the zone, stating that the presence of evil has been felt across Yorubaland, with over 70 million Yoruba people living in the South-West, parts of South-South, and North-Central Nigeria being troubled. He recalled the killing of the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi, on November 26, 2020, by suspected Fulani herdsmen, which sparked widespread outrage and was seen as an unprecedented sacrilege. The Aare Ona Kakanfo also mentioned the recent killing of three traditional rulers in Ekiti and Kwara states, which he described as a clear indication that evil has entered Yorubaland. Adams declared that the insecurity in the land has reached an alarming peak, with many Yoruba people now afraid to go to their farms or travel on the highways. He urged the governors to give him six months to flush out the terrorists, stressing that the time for action is now. The statement highlighted the need for the leaders to use their powers to curb the menace, which Adams described as a monster that must be fought with all available resources. He also praised the efforts of the Amotekun and other security agencies but noted that there is a need to complement their efforts to tackle the scourge of kidnapping and insecurity in the region.
